The question of fans and being loud does come up often. There are a few reasons why the Spal fans are loud and have a different pitch than OEM fans. The main reason is power. These are powerful fans that move more air than stock fans. Most of the noise created is from additional air movement. The blades on the fan also contribute to the sound; these are a straight blade fan which creates a different pitch to the noise. Curved-blade fans will sound differently than straight-blade fans. Straight blades and paddle blade fans tend to pull more air than curved blade. The new Brushless fans are a different story. The brushless fans are a high-power 500-watt motor with curved blades. These fans also ramp up and down as needed instead of full power on/off. This results in a tremendous amount of air movement when you need it and less power and noise when you do not. Brushless fans are changing how we use electric fans in older muscle cars and resto-mods.
